Build Immunity…Go Fish! Delicious and Healthy Rava Fish recipe!!

I have always been a huge fan of a well-cooked fish. Have almost tried all kinds available in India and now since i had moved to Dubai i am exploring a few more kinds.

King Fish or Surmai or Seer fish (there are many more names of this fish in India itself) is one of the most common and easily available fish in Dubai. Kingfish is highly recommended since it’s the perfect solution to build immunity with Fatty Acids, an extremely good source of Vitamin D, Iodine, Iron, and protein. I have tried various ways of preparing King Fish..however, I would like to share one of the most delicious ways of preparing this Fish;

Marination Ingredients

  • 750 gms of Kingfish (This fish has one bone in the center)
  • Salt as per taste
  • Turmeric (Haldi) – 01 tsp
  • Ginger- Garlic paste – 01 tbsp
  • Half Lemon / 01 Lime
  • Mustard Oil – 04 Tbsp
  • Red chili powder – 01 tsp
  • Fish Masala (Optional)- 01 tbsp
  • Ajwain (Carom seeds) – 1/2 tsp (Optional)

Cooking Ingredients

  • 01 cup Rava / Rawa/ Sooji – Spread out on a plate
  • One cup mustard oil – for shallow fry (One can use coconut / sunflower oil too)

Marinate the fish with all the ingredients mentioned and let it stay for at least 01 day. Mix all ingredients , coating each fish piece properly.

20-30 minutes before cooking, place the marinated fish piece by piece on the Sooji, properly coat each side of the fish and let it stay. After 30 minutes, shallow fry each piece of the fish on medium heat and let each side stay for 05 minutes each. Only turn the fish when it is golden brown and repeat for all pieces. Place the lid on the pan or Kadai so that the fish is cooked properly. This preparation can also be done by deep-frying, do not use the lid if deep frying.

I also, have an air fryer and this process is optional; After shallow frying, I had placed each piece in a preheated air fryer at 200 degrees celsius so that the oil is released and the fish is crispier for 10 -15 mins. Please be extremely careful and it’s important to keep checking the air fryer since the fish can dry out in this process too.

Serve hot and healthy Rava Fish with Mint chutney and enjoy!
